Had a big night? Genie Kombucha can help the morning after!

Chances are you’ve heard about the health benefits of kombucha. But what you may not know is that this drink could help cure your hangover!

Drinking a kombucha the morning after can help re-hydrate and re-energise the body. Its ability to detoxify the liver and replenish vitamins and electrolytes that were lost due to drinking make kombucha suitable to help prevent the headaches, stomach aches, and nausea that are tied to hangovers.

Kombucha and liver detoxification:

Acetaldehyde is a toxic compound which builds up in the liver after drinking and is linked to the common hangover symptoms of headaches and nausea. Kombucha, however, contains gluconic acids and antioxidants, both of which have a detoxifying effect on the liver. This means they help convert toxins into waste products that can easily be excreted from the body. For example, gluconic acids and antioxidants promote the conversion of acetaldehyde to acetic acid, and by doing so accelerate its removal from the body (along with the disappearance of headaches and nausea)… score 😊!

Kombucha and reducing nausea, stomach pain and inflammation:

Drinking the antioxidants in kombucha can reduce inflammation the morning after a big night, which means relief from stomach pain and nausea. Moreover, ginger is known for reducing nausea and settling an upset stomach. This enhances detoxification, or the removal of waste products that build-up in the body due to drinking.

Wishful drinking!

At the end of the day, there is no miracle cure for a hangover, and we (sadly) can’t make any guarantees kombucha will completely cure you. We can, however, recommend testing the remedy out for yourself (it will certainly be a tasty experiment 😉)!

And, of course, prevention is always better than cure. So next time you catch yourself reaching for an alcoholic drink, why not take a kombucha instead? Or even a kombucha mocktail! Cheers! 🥂🍹
